DID YOU KNOW…

CDG has a paid internship program? During typical summer and winter breaks we regularly employ students in different departments. This mutually beneficial program provides students with immersive learning opportunities, allowing them to work alongside industry experts, gaining real world experience.
The program also provides our staff with invaluable support. Our past interns have completed tasks that our engineers and designers are too busy to do. Currently, many of our interns are converting old AutoCAD details to Revit which benefits CDG by updating our detail libraries so future projects can proceed more quickly. Additionally, we have had interns with backgrounds in programs like MicroStation, step up and do drafting for projects, contributing to real work when we needed the extra hands on deck. Finally, having interns on staff allows our junior engineers the opportunity to take someone under their wing and pass along what they have learned, which will benefit them as they grow in their careers to potentially manage projects and staff in the future.

UTILITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT

CDG’s Utility Services Department, led by Kevin Cox, was created to bring together existing services that our staff provides to utilities outside of power generation and other traditional engineering disciplines. Currently, Utility Services provides project management support, Integrated Resource Planning, 3D Scanning and Modeling, Drone Surveying and Transmission and Distribution Protection and Automation programming and design.

Our specialists have provided project management support for clients since the early days of the company and currently have staff working at client sites to provide project controls, purchasing support and project planning.

Our electrical engineers have also been providing Integrated Resource Planning and Analysis to utility clients since 2013.  CDG staff work directly with clients’ resource planning staff to provide support for regulatory filings or develop complete load forecasts and Integrated Resource Plans.

CDG’s Design Technologies department works directly with utilities and in support of CDG’s project engineers to provide laser scanning, drone surveys, 3D modeling and CAD support.

Through strategic hiring and development, we have added transmission and distribution (T&D) design and automation to our service offerings.  This part of our team can provide support for relay changeouts, RTU design and programming, and substation design with the addition of engineering from CDG’s other departments.

T&D SUBSTATION STRUCTURAL DESIGN

CDG’s structural department has experience providing design and developing drawings for utility clients’ substation design standards, as well as new code requirements, to update standard structures libraries. Optimizations as part of these projects have resulted in weight savings of up to 24% for updated designs. Equipment supported on these structures include 69kV, 161/138kV and 345kV CCVT, SSVT, switches, lightning arrestors, cables at dead-end structures, and other standard substation electrical equipment. Our structural staff has also performed design of custom switch stands, dead-end arbors, and transformer supports, as well as detailed wind vibration analysis of a failed lightning finial, as part of our services.

NEW HIRES

Over the last few months, several people have joined our St. Louis staff. An integral part of our Utility Services Department, Anand Srivastav, PE joined the firm in January of this year. Tina Brewington, a roadway and highway design specialist, has joined the Civil Department. In March we welcomed Felita Hawkins as an Accounting Assistant, and in May and June, respectively, Alexandria Hart (intern) and Mahir Kablic started in the Structural Department. Finally, in early June, Doug Ryterski (intern) joined the Electrical Engineering Department. We are also very excited to welcome back Cache Henley, who is interning in the Design Technologies Department, and to announce that Clayton Port has transitioned from intern to a full-time staff member in the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Please join our team in welcoming CDG’s new staff members!

2020 PHOTO CONTEST

CDG’s staff is comprised of people that hold a multitude of talents. In an effort to keep us feeling connected during a time of uncertainty, and to capture the spirit of our greatest asset (our employees), the Employee Relations Committee held a photo contest! The rules were simple – submit your favorite photo.

There was a great response with several people submitting their work. A volunteer team voted on the winners. In total, there were 24 participants that submitted multiple photos! Check out some of the entries below.
