The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the City of O’Fallon, Missouri teamed up to replace the existing Technology Drive bridge on I-64 North. This initiative combined the City’s need for a pedestrian trail across Dardenne Creek and MoDOT’s need to update the bridge infrastructure.
CDG served as the prime consultant to design the replacement bridge, including a new shared use path connecting to Great Rivers Greenway’s Twin Island Trailhead – the newest section of the Dardenne Greenway.
The design combined the pedestrian and vehicular bridge into one structure, which reduced construction schedule and cost, and minimized environmental disruption. The updated structure features a total bridge width of 55 foot 8 inches, including approximately 1,000 linear feet of a 14-foot-wide shared use path.
The shared use path leads to the new Twin Island Trailhead, with connections to the Barat Haven/Bluebird trails on the Dardenne Greenway. An underpass trail was also provided for the O’Fallon bike loop on MasterCard Boulevard, which crosses under the replacement bridge and three existing bridges for a possible future connection on the west side of I-64.
The grand opening of the Twin Island Trailhead was celebrated in June of 2026. The bridge and trailhead are currently open for use.
