Did you know…

CDG is a part of taking part in the Yeah I Built That campaign? Our video is featured on the website and you can also view it here.

IDC CONTRACT WITH THE US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS & FINAL PROJECT UNDER CONTRACT

CDG is nearing its end of a 5-year Civil Works Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) with the Upper Mississippi Division of the US Army Corps of Engineers. The contract was awarded by the St. Louis District, has a capacity of $9 MM, and includes support for both federal and non-federal agencies. Services can be provided throughout the Continental United States (CONUS).

Over the course of the contract, CDG has performed 29 task orders ranging from lift gate roller chain wear studies to arc flash analyses to lake sedimentation analyses. We are happy to report that very recently we were awarded a final project that will exhaust the capacity of our contract.

Over the next 15-months we will be working with subconsultants, HDR and Bergmann, to implement a comprehensive flood control system master plan developed by the City of Cedar Rapids and contracted through the USACE Rock Island District. CDG and our teammates will be working on the implementation of improvements in Reaches 1, 2, and 4 on the east side of the Cedar River. This comprehensive scope of work includes several flood protection measures (ie. levee, floodwall, channel improvements) and pump station modifications. While we are sad that our contract is nearing its end, we are looking forward to taking on this final challenge with our teammates.

OFFICE UPGRADES

Over the last few years, the owner’s group of CDG has invested significant time and resources into updating the beautiful, historic building that houses CDG’s headquarters. Last year, several mechanical upgrades and energy efficiencies were implemented. This year, the focus has been on the 3A conference room and related technology, the guest waiting area and a new employee lounge, complete with a ping pong table!

We consider it an honor to host clients and other guests in our offices and are happy to be able to provide a more comfortable stay.

2019 EGG DROP CHALLENGE

Every year around St. Patrick’s Day, CDG employees compete to see who can build the best contraption to drop an egg from Campbell Plaza’s fourth floor balcony and deliver it safely to ground without a break. This year, however, we decided to switch things up a bit…

Our fearless President, Jay Ellington, agreed to be a living target! Roughly 30 employees participated, soaking Jay with raw egg guts. There were many hits, but in the end, only one winner. CDG’s new structural engineer, Chris Kottwitz, scored the highest number of points and received the grand prize for his epic egg dropping skills. Civil Department Manager, Steve Hilderbrand, wasn’t far behind securing second place and the runner up prize. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year!

NEW EMPLOYEES

We’ve added some new employees to the team. Deniz Sezgin and J.R. Frisella have joined our electrical department. Chris Kottwitz has joined our structural group, and Clayton Port is interning under the direction of our mechanical engineers. We are excited to have them at CDG and hope you join us in giving everyone a warm welcome.
